About Us
Hello, I’m Dr Andrea Gibbons, founder of The QI Hub. I created The QI Hub to make it easy for anyone involved in improving healthcare to access the resources they need. The QI Hub aims to remove barriers to accessing information - no matter where you work or what your role is.
Andrea's story
My career began in 2000 as a management consultant in strategy and change, first for Accenture and later IBM Business Consulting. I then spent 8 years as a senior manager for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. During this time, I developed expertise in strategy and change management, including communications, marketing, capability management, project management, and leading teams across the globe including spending time working in India.
In 2012, I joined the NHS, where I’ve been privileged to work with teams committed to improving healthcare quality. Early in my NHS career, I managed the Parkside Private Patient Unit at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, focusing on improving services to generate additional income that could be reinvested into NHS care. Another project that I’m particularly proud of was leading a successful bid in 2013 that secured £600,000 for Somerset NHS Foundation Trust to upgrade its maternity unit, helping improve care and facilities for families locally.
I consider myself an NHS 'intrapreneur'! I co-founded the National QI Communications network with Jane Barlow and Katie Angus. In 2019 I founded Evidence 4 Quality Improvement (E4QI), a national community dedicated to sharing evidence and best practice in QI. In 2019 I also launched the Improvement Evidence Update - it is now used by literally thousands of quality improvers globally every month! In 2022 I launched the 'Spotlight on' sessions which showcase how healthcare teams 'do' improvement.
Building on the success of E4QI and the Evidence Update, I launched the QI Hub in Spring 2025 to provide a hub for quality improvement evidence, tools and resources for the improvement community. Most recently, I founded the 100 Voices project, which highlights diverse and inspiring experiences from across the UK’s improvement community.
I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition and financial support for my national work including three Q Community Awards (2019, 2022, and 2025) totalling £70,000, the Institute for Continuous Improvement in Public Services Collaboration Award in 2019, and was runner-up in the HSJ Awards also in 2019.
I hold a PhD from Bristol University (in management consulting in the NHS), an MBA from London Business School, and a law degree from St Catherine’s College, Oxford. Over time, I’ve developed a passion for connecting people, evidence, and ideas to support meaningful improvement in healthcare. I hold PRINCE2 and P3O qualifications, which have supported my work in project and programme management, ensuring a structured and effective approach to delivering successful outcomes.
Outside of work, I have 3 children, live in Somerset. My hobbies include languages, travel, music and the theatre!
